A perennial is a plant that will return year after year. There are many different types of perennials.

  • Evergreen perennials will keep their foliage all year round, giving your garden colour throughout the seasons.
  • Hardy perennials are persistent, and can endure many weathers.
  • Tender perennials can’t usually tolerate colder conditions, and will struggle under freezing temperatures.
  • Herbaceous perennials will die during the winter, but will grow back, displaying new growth, making the plant larger year after year.
Perennials will flower year after year, and can be planted as a group to form borders. Planting perennials that flower at similar times can create interest in your garden during times in the year.
